Job Title:       Mental Health Counselor
Reports To:   Executive Director
Status:           Full Time, Non-Exempt
Salary: Range: $75K to $80K per year

 PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Provide direct mental health counseling services to adults, children and families that have experienced violence.  The Mental Health Counselor will provide counseling support, assessments, and intervention services. This position will work with other WISH staff to assist participants in achieving safety and building skills that enable them to live free of violence.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·     Asses individual needs and provide crisis intervention and ongoing support and counseling for adults, children and families that are impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault.
·     Develop and implement assessment and treatment plans.
·     Provide assistance in building client safety and self-sufficiency.

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:

·       Conduct comprehensive initial screening processes to determine eligibility for program services, providing assessment, intake, and enrollment where appropriate.
·       Provide flexible, individualized counseling services to adults, children and families.
·       Assist to facilitate parenting/caregiver education groups using evidence-based or evidence-informed programs and tools.
·       Assist to facilitate support-education groups to educate clients on various issues including basics of self- esteem, safety, parenting, and social/emotional growth to help overcome stress, trauma, current and past crisis.
·       Develop family case plans collaboratively with Family Resource Advocates that prioritize family safety and are responsive to the unique needs of the families.
·       Help clients in obtaining personal growth in addressing co-occurring issues related to sexual assault/domestic violence such as:
·       Make referrals to other services as needed.
·       Other Duties as Assigned by Executive Director or their designee.
·       Maintain accurate records in all systems.
·       Mandated reporting of abuse.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
·       Ability to work collaboratively across systems including public school and tribal health system.
·       Ability to remain objective and to perform under stressful conditions.
·       Knowledge of and ability to operate in a manner consistent with the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics and
standards of Practice
·       Ability to utilize flexibility, initiative and independent judgment, organize own work, coordinate projects, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow-up on assignments with minimal direction.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
·       Experience providing individual and group counseling for survivors of domestic violence/sexual assault and their children.
·       Experience completing case plans and participating in case management team meetings.
·       Thorough understanding of domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual assault, and the needs of survivors and be an enthusiastic practitioner of trauma informed care.
·       Must adhere to high standards of professional integrity and confidentiality.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field from an accredited college or university with accredited licensure (LPC, LICSW, LMFT).

 REQUIRED FOR EMPLOYMENT:
·       Successfully complete a fingerprint, background, and criminal history check
·       Complete a 40 hour online Domestic Violence training provided by WISH through CDVSA.
·       Adhere to all WISH policies, procedures and protocols including confidentiality and code of ethics.
·       Current First Aid/CPR certification or obtain within 30 days of employment.
·       Current TB clearance or obtain within 30 days.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER PEOPLE:
·       Cooperate and interact with WISH staff, volunteers and community agencies with dignity and tact.
·       Will not engage in intimate relationships with a person seeking or receiving services from WISH.
·       Model nonviolent behavior and freedom from substance abuse.

CONFIDENTIALITY:
·       Must adhere to all confidentiality requirements including, but not limited to WISH’s internal policies, requirements of local, state, and federal law necessary to protect the safety, dignity and privacy of persons seeking or receiving services.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
·       Fast paced office environment with moderate to loud noise, frequent, unscheduled interruptions.
·       Periodic exposure to situations where individuals may be a danger to themselves or others.
·       Occasional exposure to hazardous conditions (cigarette smoke, bodily fluids, spills, chemicals and cleaning agents, broken glass, etc.)
