Job Title: Attorney
Reports To: Executive Director
Status: Full Time, Exempt
Salary: $110,000 starting DOE
Essential Functions:
Provide direct legal representation, consultation, and advocacy to survivors in the following areas:
Family Law (custody, divorce)
Civil Protection Orders (DV, sexual assault, IPV, stalking)
Consumer Law, including Bankruptcy
Housing Law (Landlord/Tenant)
Title IX complaints for student survivors of sexual assault
Victim’s Rights and Crime Victim Compensation
Maintain a trauma-informed, survivor-centered approach in all legal services.
Work in collaboration with WISH staff to ensure comprehensive and coordinated support for survivors.
Accept referrals and maintain partnerships with allied agencies in the WISH service area.
Provide community education or legal information sessions when needed.
Maintain accurate and timely case records and reporting documentation in compliance with grant and agency standards.
Stay current in Alaska laws and regulations related to civil legal services for victims of violence.
Participate in staff meetings, training, and collaborative partner activities.
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Licensed to practice law in Alaska, or eligible for licensure upon hire.
Minimum of 2 years of legal practice preferred, with a focus on civil law, family law, or victim services strongly desired.
Demonstrated commitment to social justice, advocacy, and working with underserved populations.
Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or trauma preferred.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Willingness to travel occasionally to partner communities in Southern Southeast Alaska.
Highly motivated and productive.
Preferred experience:
Knowledge and experience with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Strong written communication, verbal communication, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in computer use, word processing, files management and electronic communications.
Knowledge/experience with general office and business procedures.
Demonstrate ability to model non-violent behavior and freedom from substance abuse.
The ability to work a flexible schedule and travel as needed, including by airplane out of state.
Must be sensitive to cultural diversity.
Must have and maintain a current Alaska driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Required for employment:
Successfully complete a fingerprint, background, and criminal history check
Complete a 40 hour online Domestic Violence training provided by WISH through CDVSA.
Adhere to all WISH policies and procedures including confidentiality and code of ethics.
Current First Aid/CPR certification or obtain within 30 days of employment.
Current TB clearance or obtain within 30 days.
